What are the parts of a flowering plant?

Visit a garden or find an area where flowers can be observed growing. Look at the parts of the plant and identify the flower petals, leaves, and stems. Discuss how the roots are underground but also a part of the plant. Draw a picture of the plants and flowers observed. Label the parts of the plant and use crayons to add color too.

Questions to ask:

How many petals/stems/leaves are there?

How many flowers are growing on one plant/stem?

How many plants are there in this garden?

What visitors/pollinators do you notice in the garden?

Safety tip: Watch where you step! Pollinators like bees or butterflies may be visiting the garden too. Leave the flowers and plants where they are growing even though it may be tempting to pick them.
