Instructors: Kathleen Dwyer and Lauren Church.
Learn the basics of how solar cells work as well as the latest research that seeks to improve how solar energy is harnessed. Scientists seek to understand and mimic the processes used by photosynthetic organisms. In this workshop, for teachers of grades 6-12, participants will create dye-sensitized cells that use natural pigments to collect solar energy. Factors that impact the efficiency of solar cells will be investigated.
- Introduction to photovoltaic (solar) cells
- Make a dye-sensitive solar cell
- Investigate the factors that impact the efficiency of solar cells
Workshop includes continental breakfast. All workshop participants are eligible to check out a FREE kit of materials, in order to repeat the lessons in their own classroom.
