This is the story of how the people of the United States, the US Aerospace Industry, and American Universities forged a partnership that began in 19th-century agricultural America and ended in the placement of a man on the moon. It is the story of how the Space Race molded the culture of an entire generation of Americans—how they were educated, where they worked, and how they viewed technology and engineering. Using his own personal history, and those of Washington University in St. Louis, and the McDonnell Douglas Corporation (as examples of how the partnership unfolded), Dr. Peters weaves the three narratives together into the story of Boomers, Bloomers, and Zoomers.
