Featured Speaker: Michael Swartwout, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Saint Louis University Parks College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology
In the past ten years, a new type of small satellite has received a lot of attention: the CubeSat. About the size of a loaf of bread, more CubeSats are put into orbit each year than the number of all other spacecraft combined. SLU Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering professor, Michael Swartwout, reviews the recent history of CubeSats and addresses this question: are these mere toys, useful tools, or will they just contribute to the cloud of debris in Earth’s orbit?
