WUCT is a student-led chemistry competition for high school students, created by a group of undergraduates at Washington University in St. Louis. WUCT emphasizes real world applications of science and promotes fundamental problem-solving and teamwork skills. There is no prerequisite chemistry course that must be taken in order to compete, though the material can extend from basic chemistry knowledge to AP-level and beyond.
Registration for WUCT 2018 opens October 30, 2017 and will remain open through March 1, 2018. The registration fee for each 6-person team is $60, with breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided. Team registration can be completed online at http://wuct.wustl.edu and spots will be filled on a first-come basis. The website also contains details about the competition, links to social media, and practice questions.
There will be several opportunities throughout the day to tour the campus, meet other teams, and potentially participate in other fun activities, such as trivia competitions, mixers with WashU students, and lab demonstrations. While students are busy, teachers will have the opportunity to attend speaker series on either work with or research with education at WashU that could be applied to a high school setting, engaging students in STEM education.
Any questions regarding the tournament or requests for financial assistance may be directed to wuct@su.wustl.edu.
