National Engineers Week is a week dedicated to celebrating how engineers make a difference in the world, and hosting engineering activities for students and educators across the nation. This year, National Engineers Week is from February 17 to February 23, 2019. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at Washington University in St. Louis participates in this week by hosting Women in STEM Day.
“Women in STEM Day” will be held on Saturday, February 23rd from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, and is open to the first 120 high school women who register.

The students will rotate through lab demonstrations from chemistry, biology, math, and various branches of engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Chemical – with hands-on experiments or problems presented by Washington University faculty. After lunch (which will be provided), with a panel discussion led by experts from STEM fields, including faculty and students, there will be a keynote speaker, and to close the day, students will team up for a series of mini design and communication projects in the Engineering Olympics.
Students may find the online application along with more information about the event at http://womeninstemday.wixsite.com/wisd2019. The registration deadline is February 11, 2019. There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee, which covers the cost of supplies and food. This fee can be paid online and the instructions for which are under the “Registration” tab on the website. Financial assistance is available for this registration fee and will be considered if indicated on the registration form.
