Hot Topics: Synthetic Biology 2018

Event Description

Free workshop for high school teachers. Continental breakfast included, starting at 9:00am.

Increasing concerns about the global petroleum supply require sustainable solutions for the production of fuels, chemicals, and materials that are currently derived from petroleum. Engineering microbes for the bioproduction of these compounds is very attractive because it allows the conversion of renewable and low-cost feedstocks (e.g. cellulosic biomass, simple sugars) into products through a “green” process. Synthetic biology is a fascinating and rapidly growing field that allows researchers to engineer biology using engineering concepts. This workshop will cover recent research topics in using synthetic biology to produce renewable transportation fuels.
