K-12 Connections Program

K-12 Connections connects the Washington University community with volunteer opportunities involving high-needs urban school districts in the St. Louis area, primarily through classroom field trips to WUSTL for enrichment experiences and exposure to college life. Requesting support through K-12 Connections is as simple as describing your plans and needs through their school request form.

The Gephardt Institute Opportunities Newsletter features campus and community opportunities available to WUSTL students, faculty, and staff. Community partners seeking volunteers or promoting initiatives can submit announcements by using the submissions page. The Opportunities newsletter is emailed to thousands of members of the university campus community each Thursday during fall and spring semesters.
Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum

The Kemper Art Museum’s education department offers programs tailored for classes from kindergarten through high school and their teachers. Inquiry-based tours are designed to foster conversation, close observation, and imaginative exploration of works of art. Tours are available of both the current special exhibitions and permanent collection. To schedule a visit for your students, fill out a visit request form. Engage with the museum on a deeper level by participating in a teacher workshop. Through these educator-led professional development opportunities, area teachers will learn new ways to facilitate arts-based learning and take these exciting ideas back to their classrooms. WU Classics Outreach Program

Washington University’s Department of Classics is happy to welcome school and community groups to campus, and the department’s faculty and students can visit classes and other groups at their school location in the St. Louis area. Programs are designed to align with art, English, history, science and music, as well as Latin and modern languages. Other programs can be designed to meet the needs and wishes of schools and other groups as they arise. Events are designed for groups in grades 6-12. They can also be adjusted for younger students. Neuroscience Education & Outreach

The Saint Louis Neuroscience Outreach Consortium (STLNOC) aims to connect students, teachers, and the public with brain-related research and educational opportunities across the St. Louis region. They support a variety of programs and events at Washington University and beyond, with the goal of promoting an understanding and appreciation of neuroscience for all ages. Young Scientist Program

The Young Scientist Program aims to attract students to scientific careers and increase the participation of underrepresented groups in science by bringing resources and scientists directly to teachers and students in the St. Louis area. YSP strives to achieve this mission through diversity-focused paid summer research internships, hands-on scientific demonstrations in local classrooms, field trips to Washington University School of Medicine, dissemination of teaching kits containing pre-planned lessons, one-on-one mentoring, and loaning or donating laboratory equipment to classrooms in need.

BJC School Outreach and Youth Development provides health prevention education and career exploration opportunities for K-12 grade youth. Their interactive programs equip young people with health knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions around health behaviors and academic success.
