Explore Engineering gives high-school students a taste of the field

Creating a prosthetic hand from funnels, Popsicle sticks and other everyday items will challenge area high school juniors and seniors June 6 at Washington University in St. Louis.

About 30 students from local high schools will participate in Explore Engineering, a daylong event sponsored by Washington University School of Engineering & Applied Science. The community outreach event allows students interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to work with Washington University Engineering faculty and students and get hands-on experience in engineering projects to promote critical thinking.
