The Boeing Company has long understood the importance of improving STEM education in the St. Louis region with its continued support of the Institute for School Partnership at Washington University in St. Louis.
The Boeing Company recently awarded the ISP a grant for STEMpact, a unique collaboration of the St. Louis area’s top STEM companies, of which Boeing is a member, school districts and Washington University, that provides education and resources for teachers and school district to help STEM education thrive in the region.
“We are thrilled that The Boeing Company provides support for this program,” said Victoria May, executive director of the ISP. “By increasing and improving STEM education in the St. Louis region, we are confident that the next generations of STEM leaders will come right from our own schools.”
According to a U.S. Department of Commerce STEM jobs are expected to continue to grow at a faster rate than other jobs in the coming decade.
The funding will support the STEM Teacher Quality Institute or STEM TQ, an intensive two-week summer seminar where teachers learn how to “STEM-itize” their lessons, and to connect STEM curriculum to the real world, student interests and future careers.
Brittany Douglas, Community Investor for the St. Louis Region, says the company sees the grant as a long-range investment in its own future.
“We will be a significant job provider in Missouri for decades to come. Our goal with the grant is to make sure that students in the St. Louis region are getting the skills they need to fill future jobs at Boeing and in the aerospace industry,” Douglas explained.
